Buys for our kitchen

Went down with Jeff our contractor for the purchase of our kitchen and washroom items. Here are some of the kitchen appliances we bought for our lovenest.

The cool hood have an extension in front so that the whole hood will not be too bulky in the outlook and not compromise on the extraction reach.

Jeff said that this hod will complement the black granite kitchen top. Hope it turn out great. Anyway, the pretty glass type hood have the danger of cracking if hot surface are left on it for too long or when things drop on it.

The beautiful built-in oven which has 8 cooking functions. Hope it doesn't turn out to be a white elephant. I promise to try baking cupcakes....:)

Down with the walls

Went down yesterday for an update of the progress and found the walls concrete all settle.

Open concept kitchen in progress. Definately open up our small space. Worry about the grease and stains later. Too bad we cant hack it all the way as HDB require some allowance as seen in the right of the wall.

MBR connection to the WIW area which effecrively is half of the other common room. The other half will be our small study or work area.

The hole from the small study room to the entertainment room. The connection is intended to convert the study room into a small WIW and the entertainment room into a bedroom if we need to house dear's mom in the future.

Our all white floor tiles for the living room and kitchen and the parquet tiles for the rooms.

The cement and sand all up. Figure that the cement sceding will start soon.

Accessories shortlisted for our new home

To jazz up the space, I had been searching for some cool accessories to add to our new home.

Wanted to see how much the standing lamp cost and found out at Millenium walk that it will be $980. Anyway Dear commented that it is too big for our small living space.

Saw these cool key holder online. Will be getting them especially for forgetful me.
Will also be getting some movies poster for the entertainment room but have not decided which. Guess those will come later.

Buys for the new home.

Some buys for our new home.

The new Scarlet 42" LCD TV by LG. Come with hidden speakers and a beautiful body.

9 kg washing machine from LG as well. Dear's LG washing machine had served her without problem for the last 10 years and I guess we can rely on the brand again for our new home.

Jus realised that we actually supported LG a lot. All from LG so far. Think we better dun put all our eggs in one basket and start buying from other brands. This is our freezer for the new home..Think it should be big enuff for the two of us with room to spare.

Progress of renovation_Week 2

Moving into week 2 and found the false ceiling up. Pretty fast work by the renovation company.

False ceiling in the MBR. Light tubes will be install in the gaps and we will be getting a small chandelier to be placed at the end of the bed.

False ceiling at the entrance walk way. Jeff, our designer suggested to paint this area black for a contrast effect. Will consider that again.

Wall section to be knock down on Monday to connect the MBR to the WIWR. The door to the right will be seal up for the dresser area.

Knocking down a door path between the 2 other rooms. One end will b e the entertainment room and the other the small study or work area. The entertainment room layout seems challenging and we have to work our way round the small space. Intending to get a KTV system and our first choice will be the room as more privacy and I will dare to sing out loud as oppose to singing in the living room.

Last but no least, knocking down the kitchen wall seperating it from the living room for a open concept kitchen. Will be having a custom-design island in between. Hope it turn out well.

Saw this at the neighbour house. Is it safe?

Progress of renovation_Week 1

After settling with a renovation company near our new home, which had shown us some impressive showflat completed, we are going ahead with the renovation. Some of the initial work done before the wall knocking begin to open up the space for our new home.

Gas Piping fixed up. Mom had been asking us to get the tank type of gas but we did not go ahead as dear worries about the safety.

Electrical work stage 1 completed.

Next up, the false ceiling installation.

Finally...Collection of Our Home Keys Part 2

Opening the door to our love nest for the very first time.

Before the official entry, rolling in the pineapple aka Ong Lai for good luck.

The simple offerings and my cleansing tour around the place.

Not a bad view from the top. If we leave above 25th storey, the view will be even more fanatistic, with sea view.

Our living room. Our kitchen view. The stickers on the wall shows the location of the hidden pipings.

The narrow walkway to the 3 rooms and common washroom.

Stay Tune for more updates to the build-up of our dream home.

Finally...Collection of Our Home Keys Part 1

After a long wait of 5 months since we placed our ballot for a Queenstown slot...which I tot would be jus for fun since the response was overwhelming and was banking on our chances for less desirable areas like Seng Kang and Pouggol, we finally are able to collect the keys.

It was a exciting process mixed with hope, disappointment and finally joy. Guess many of you would be going thru this in years to come ahead. We should count out lucky stars for getting a good ballot number 1x8 and equally lucky when 30+ dropped out before our turn. In the end, we managed to get a high floor unit and the unit of our choice in terms of layout.

So 5 months since we placed the ballot in Jan 2008, we are now offically proud owners of a HDB flat. The key collection process was tedious with lotsa documents to sign and we are glad to have a very efficient officer serving us who was patient with explaining the documents twice as dear can only reach 1/2 hr later than me.

With the keys in our hands, we made our way to the long-awaited house we can call our own (but with a 30 years loan of cos). Met my mom at the flat for some traditional ritual to announce our arrival and cleansing the area.

Mom doing her thing to announce our arrival.

More Photos in part 2....
